Welcome!

We are a sweet little studio located in the heart of Charlottetown, PEI.

A Warm Welcome

We are a place to meet friends, old and new. Our name is as dynamic as our offering: Buenos Island Studio has a great vibe! The moment folks enter they say “wow,” they are welcomed and surrounded by warmth and music. Inspired by Buenos Aires (the heart of global Argentine Tango), we bear a multilingual title that captures our energy: we are for dance and movement without boundaries and borders.

You’re In Good Hands

We work with national and internationally-trained instructors to provide quality instruction and training. The Studio hosts qualified, experienced instructors (certified when applicable). They will give you a supportive, personalized experience.  We offer learning by series, drop-in, or private instruction.

We’ve Got Something For You!

We have wedding “first dance” service, and packages for birthday, anniversary, bachelor/ette, and even divorce parties! We offer martial arts, movement and dance, adapted for many ages and stages of life.

Year round offerings include Groovy Daytime Movement, Tai Chi, Karate, Argentine Tango, L.A. and Cuban-style Salsa, Salsa Rueda, Bachata, and Swing (Lindy Hop).

Our Commitment to Care

Our Code of Conduct is on our registration portal and in our studio. Everyone who participates in our events must adhere to its core principles of consent, anti-discrimination and anti-bullying, and a duty of care towards self, other learners, instructors and students.

Studio Director

Hi! I’m Kathleen. I live on beautiful Epekwitk.

I’ve dedicated my life to studying and teaching a multitude of global and interdisciplinary music and dance styles.

Many decades ago, when I was a wee dancer at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, I did not know that my path would lead here to PEI. It’s been an enriching path; training for Salsa in L.A. and Montreal, learning and dancing Tango all over the world. A dash of central and eastern European folkdance… You name it, I love it!

Fun fact: I am a doctor of global music and dance, having earned my PhD in Ethnomusicology from UCLA.

I love meeting people who have a dance story to share. Especially those brave people who, no matter their age, are ready to expand, explore, and re-write their own dance story!

My learning is continuous! You can find me in the studio, practicing, or studying privately with Tango masters.
